A Future Filled with Possibility: Daranita in her own words

Today, I can imagine a future filled with possibility, not because it was handed to me easily, but because of EYC and people like you, who have always believed in my potential and in youth development.

Before EYC, my world felt full of barriers and limitations. I grew up in an environment where educational resources and opportunities were extremely difficult to access, and my parents could not afford English classes for me. When I attended Khmer classes, I saw many students confidently speaking English while I struggled to follow conversations. Feeling behind made me realize that learning a language is not just an academic subject, but a bridge that connects us to the world.

In 2019, when my neighbor introduced me to Aziza Thmey, one of the EYC community centers, I did not hesitate or feel afraid. I ran to register. From that moment, my life slowly began to gain color. I truly enjoyed learning and, for the first time, felt that my life was moving forward.

Through EYC, I gained much more than English and computer skills. I participated in meaningful programs such as English Practice Partners, leadership courses, workshops, and projects, and eventually became a team leader, mentoring younger students and helping them build confidence and leadership skills. From a young girl who only wished to learn English, I became a student who could think beyond the classroom and see the world and myself differently.

In late 2023, EYC announced a scholarship opportunity at New Generation School (NGS), one of Cambodia’s leading 21st-century model schools. After preparing intensively and passing the entrance exams, I received a full scholarship in 2024. At NGS, I strengthened my discipline, confidence, and academic foundation. As a result, I graduated from high school with a Grade A in the national examination, a grade achieved by only 2% of students.

Today, I am at university and aspire to become a diplomat, not as a title, but as a purpose. I want to be someone who listens, builds bridges, and carries the voices of Cambodian youth into international conversations, while bringing opportunities back home.

I am currently completing an internship at EYC, where I am developing professional skills aligned with my academic studies.

My journey with EYC over the past six years has transformed not only my education, but also how I understand myself and the world around me. EYC has taught me that every action we take, every small effort we make to improve ourselves, and every piece of knowledge we share is a powerful contribution to our community.

Every step of my journey has been shaped by people who believe deeply in youth development. Your support has created a real and lasting impact, and I carry the lessons I learned at EYC with me into my future, determined to give back, lead with purpose, and create positive change.
