EYC’s New Student-Led Tutoring Program

We are excited to share that in August 2025, EYC launched a new Tutoring Program serving students from grades 7 to 12. This tutoring program addresses the needs of our younger students while also serving as a powerful addition to our leadership activities and team leader program.
Why of the Program
Our intention for this program is to ensure that every student can access and benefit from quality education, aligning with EYC’s overall mission to support and empower youth through education. It was created in response to students falling behind, being unable to afford extra classes, or needing additional support that’s not always available in public schools. The program aims to improve academic achievement, strengthen the EYC community, raise the overall learning levels by providing targeted support in key subjects, and foster leadership among youth.
Benefits to Students
Every Sunday, around 120 students from 13 to 18 years old gather at our three different community centers to explore subjects such as Chemistry, Khmer, and Mathematics, helping them become better students. This program offers students personalized attention in small classrooms, allowing them to improve their knowledge, confidence, and motivation. Subjects like Math and Science can be challenging without proper guidance, so this support helps students who often struggle in public school. Khmer sessions also strengthen language and cultural knowledge. Students leave these sessions empowered, more knowledgeable, and motivated to excel in their studies.
Impact
We keep the number of students relatively small in each classroom so the students can get individual attention from their tutors. After just four sessions, tutors like Ny Hour observed tangible progress: “The success comes when students regain confidence by reviewing past lessons and begin to move forward.”
Ny Hour shared that many Grade 9 students struggle because they’ve forgotten basics from Grade 8, with some needing to review simple arithmetic. The challenge is helping them catch up while moving forward with the lessons. By Grade 10, students are more prepared, but gaps still exist between students, so tutors offer extra support to keep everyone on track. In the short time the program has been running, it has already made a difference—improving grades, building confidence, strengthening bonds across ages, and inspiring future role models. It fosters a passion for learning and opens up new growth opportunities for students and tutors alike.
In His Own Words: Tutor Ny Hour
Ny Hour has been with EYC for 8 years, developing a wide range of skills along the way. His love for chess fuels his strategic thinking, while his passion for music sparks creativity. Skilled in math and coding—fields where he has hands-on experience—he’s always eager to grow. Ny Hour actively contributes to the EYC community, sharing ideas and inspiring others.
“Helping students see that math isn’t too complicated and that they can apply it in daily life is the real achievement.” Ny Hour shared how the program helps students catch up and move forward, particularly in Grade 10, where he notes, “I can start new lessons quickly and focus on making math simple and practical.” His experience exemplifies how this initiative empowers both students and tutors alike.
